Overview

Imperial Engineering were engaged by Workspace Design & Build Ltd to undertake the electrical and data installation package to the complete 4th floor of building 8, Exchange Quay, Salford Quays, Manchester. The works were part of a comprehensive Cat B fit out for the international multi-product manufacturer 3M.
The workspace was designed to be used as the regional sales office consisting of open plan multi-desk areas, cellular office spaces and meeting rooms. Imperial undertook the full electrical package consisting of a network of underfloor busbar trunking systems to supply the small power to the desk areas, an intelligent modular lighting system was installed throughout, with circular energy efficient LED luminaires installed in all circulation spaces and recessed linear LED luminaires in the meeting rooms. The lighting installation has day light sensitivity controls to further conserve energy.
Imperial Engineering’s voice and data team installed an expansive CAT 6 voice and data system to 3M specifications. The system was backed up with a UPS system to minimise disruption in the event of a power outage.
Imperial also installed an AV system comprising of networked branded information screens allowing information to be displayed at several locations throughout the space from one central source as well as integrated presentation systems within the individual meeting rooms.

Key Challenges

The key challenges with this project were integrating the AV system with the needs of the office space and liaising with the furniture supplier to ensure the desktop distribution systems were capable of supporting the required signal strengths.
